Ankara, the heart of the Turkish Republic, is the capital and the second largest city of Turkey after Istanbul. It is actually a very large and very impressive Turkish city, constantly expanding and offering a sophisticated and modern character. The city connects east with west - the European influences combined with the ones of the Middle East have coloured the architecture, food, wine, nightlife, fashion and arts. The two cultures have merged to build a city with a unique blend of identity.
As the economic and transport center of Anatolia, it is the center of the state-owned and private Turkish defence and aerospace companies, where the industrial plants and headquarters of the Turkish Aerospace Industries,MKE, ASELSAN, Havelsan, Roketsan, FNSS, Nurol Makina and numerous other firms are located. A number of the global automotive companies also have production facilities in Ankara, such as the German bus and truck manufacturer MAN SE.
While the dynamic street-life is enough of a reason to visit, Ankara boasts two extraordinary monuments central to the Turkish story – the beautifully conceived Museum of Anatolian Civilisations and the Anıt Kabir, a colossal tribute to Atatürk, modern Turkey's founder.
